MARIAH CAREY'S MATH MISTAKE AS ADDED UP BY A NUTTY PROFESSOR!

MARIAH CAREY's decision to call her album E=MC2 doesn't add up - leading mathematicians insist she "misread" the meaning behind ALBERT EINSTEIN's famous formula. The Hero hitmaker used Einstein's mass-energy equivalence sum as the title of her 2008 LP. In interviews to promote the record, the singer's eleventh studio release, Carey told reporters she re-interpreted the equation to stand for "emancipation equals Mariah Carey times two".

But Dr David Leslie, lecturer in Statistics Department of Mathematics at Britain's Bristol University, has slammed the star's choice of title insisting Carey didn't properly research the meaning of the equation before using it. He tells the BBC, "(Carey has) misread the algebra. The 'two' in the equation means C squared, not MC multiplied by two. The correct reading of the equation is E=MCC, so perhaps Mariah's re-interpretation should have been 'Emancipation equals Mariah Carey Carey'?"

Bologna! My father who is a former politician is the Mathematician of the African Diaspora and attended St Andrews in Scotland plus Cambridge and Oxford, England with a P.hD in Mathematics. Know what he said? "Leslie's an idiot. Doesn't he see that Mariah is all about entertainment and not square roots?" My family actually knows Dr Leslie. We grew up with his kids in Oxford when he and our dad were senior lecturers teaching there in 1973. It's a small world!

PUBLIC ENEMY PREPARES TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR FIRST IN WORLD'S MOST EASTERLY CITY.

Rappers PUBLIC ENEMY, rockers FRANZ FERDINAND and THE KOOKS, and DJ CARL COX will help residents of the world's most easterly city welcome 2009 before anyone else on Earth. Gisborne, New Zealand sits right on the international dateline and is the first city to welcome the sun each day. And it will be the first place to celebrate the New Year - a full 13 hours before London, 18 hours before New York and 21 before Los Angeles.

The city is the site of the Rhythm & Vines festival which starts on 29 December (08), running through to 1 January (09). The two British bands kick off the event on Monday (29Dec08) with performances, before Public Enemy takes the stage on 30 December (08). But Brit DJ Cox will have the honour of performing the first gig anywhere in the world in 2009 - by taking to the turntables 15 minutes after midnight on 1 January (09).

We're hoping Flava Flav has set his clock right. That is 18 hours ahead of Toronto.

AMY NOT READY TO GET RID OF BLAKE YET?

Amy Winehouse is reportedly planning to take back husband Blake Fielder-Civil. According to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, Amy - who is currently on holiday in the Caribbean - spoke to Blake on Christmas day, and the pair agreed to give their marriage another go. The Rehab singer is now planning to fly back to the UK from St Lucia to visit Blake - who is currently serving a 27 month prison sentence for assault and perverting the course of justice - at Edmunds Hill Jail in Suffolk.

A source reveals, “After months of bust-ups, Amy has decided to take Blake back. She says the best Christmas present will be to have her man home for good. “Her dream would be to see in the New Year with him but she knows that can’t happen because he is locked up. But she still hopes to jet back before then to visit him. “Being with local families in St Lucia has made Amy realize just how much she missed Blake. “He was her inspiration for her single Back To Black, and being apart makes her realize how much she loves him.”

CHRISTINA AGUILERA TO LAUNCH FASHION LINE.

Christina Aguilera is set to launch a fashion line. The 'Dirrty' singer is in talks with UK high street fashion chain Topshop - which also sells a collection by British supermodel Kate Moss - to launch the range, which could earn her up to $1.8 million. A source said: "Sir Philip Green, who owns Topshop, has started talks with Christina and hopes to sign a deal soon. She has visited his offices in London and they are thrashing out the details." Green - who owns the Arcadia group, which includes Topshop - is said to be particularly keen to secure a range by Christina as he believes it would compliment Kate's well.

The source added to Britain's the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "Philip loves her style and believes she would add something new to Topshop. Christina is the blonde bombshell who is into pop whereas Kate is the rock chick and model. She'd appeal to a younger shopper than Kate." Kate recently extended her contract with the store for another three years, and revealed she can't wait to start work on her new lines. She said: "The last two years have been an exciting experience and Topshop has given me the perfect platform to develop my own collection, which is something that I have wanted to do for a long time.

Rihanna Tapped to Perform at Super Bowl Bash.

Pop sensation Rihanna has been tapped to headline the NFL's Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash along with Fall Out Boy, Lifehouse, and Enrique Iglesias. The two night event is set to take place at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida on Jan. 29 to kick off Super Bowl XLIII, which takes place on Feb. 1.

The Super Bowl Bash will be hosted by actor Jerry O'Connell and the first concert is scheduled to air live on VH1 Thursday, Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. while the second will air on Telemundo the following day.

In related news, Rihanna is set to perform for the Recording Industry Assosciation of America's Presidental Inauguration Charity Ball on Jan. 20, to benefit Feeding America the nation's largest hunger-relief organization. MEL B 'S SCARY BIRTH STORIES FOR BANDMATE AIN'T FUNNY!!

Former SPICE GIRL MELANIE CHISHOLM is nervous about giving birth to her first child - because ex-bandmate MELANIE BROWN has frightened her with hospital horror stories. The British singer is expecting her first child in February (09), and is the last of the Girl Power troupe to become a mum. But despite the star's excitement about her impending parenthood, she has heard terrible tales about having a baby - from mum-of-two Melanie Brown, known in the band's heyday as Scary Spice.

However, the star insists she has not been put off - and the rest of her bandmates have offered her the support she needs. NICK JONAS dreams about marrying the perfect woman - and often discusses his plans to wed with brother JOE. The 16-year-old singer, who has dated Miley Cyrus and is now rumoured to be going out with Disney star Selena Gomez, wears a purity ring to signify his no-sex-before-marriage rule. But the star is eager to settle down, and spends hours talking about his future with his 19-year-old brother.

Madonna's new boyfriend is a secret porn star. BRITNEY SPEARS is determined to stick to her New Year resolution - she wants to quit chewing her fingernails in 2009. The Womanizer superstar hates biting her nails, and longs for manicured and attractive hands. But the singer insists there is a valid reason her dirty habit - she can't stop worrying. She says, "Next year, I have to learn to stop biting my nails! I would like to stop worrying so much, because I worry all the time.

And to learn how to be happier, just in general. I have to learn to take things not so seriously." But Spears doesn't hold out much hope of sticking to her 2009 promise because she's never kept a resolution yet. She adds, "I end up breaking them. It's hard."

JAY-Z'S HOTEL GROUNDED?

The development of a New York hotel rapper JAY-Z invested in is on hold because the star and his partners cannot pull in further financing for the project. The Big Pimpin' hitmaker - real name Shawn Carter - ploughed money into J Hotels, which acquired a $66 million plot to build a high-end hotel in the Big Apple.

But due to the ailing economy, partners have failed to pull in investors and there is now a $370 million shortfall in funds, as even the banks won't back the property development. Charles Blaichman, one of Jay-Z's partners, tells The New York Times, "A year ago it would have seemed a reasonable amount. Not now. Even the banks who want to give us money can't."

Get real Jay? This is not the time to be showing off your stacks. The economy is too sour. Not even one person will check in that hotel.

Jennifer Hudson's Brother-In-Law Indicted for Triple Murder!

William Balfour, the man charged with the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew, was formally indicted on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion on Tuesday. Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, Julia, was listed as a person of interest early in the investigation and was arrested earlier this month for the triple murder of the Academy Award-winner's family.

The bodies of Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, were discovered last October in their Chicago residence. Hudson's 7-year-old nephew Julian King was found three days later in an SUV.

Balfour is being held without bond on a parole violation at Illinois' Stateville Correctional Center.

In related news, Hudson is scheduled to make her first public appearance since the tragic murders. The singer/actress has been tapped to pay tribute to Neil Diamond at February's MusiCares Person of the Year gala.

HIPHOSSIP'S THANKS YOU FOR A TERRIFIC 2008!

Here at HipHossip, 2008 has been a wonderful year for KJ and I. I decided to pick the folks in the music business who made an impact on all of us in Canada this year. This is my second year coming up in Canada and I feel that creating this blog has definitely changed some perceptions in the business. Some of you said you wanted more gossip, more news and more Canadian content. You got it!

I updated this blog around the clock from my offices, on the subway and in my bed on the laptop. Just for you I have done a lot in just one year. You called, you e-mailed, you spoke in polls. Thank you for making HipHossip Canada your leading Music Blog in North America and Canada. We are now visited by thousands from around the world as seen on out live feed and we are also one of Toronto's leading blogs as well. Like Jully Black said on Canadian Idol, it's about giving people chances in life. After just one year in Toronto, I applied for media credentials from CTV's Much Music and was granted one to cover the most anticipated award show in Canada, The Much Music Video Music Awards.

I was very priviledged by Jennifer Correlli of Much's media relations who gave me a chance and opportunity. For 20 years, I have been a Pharmacist, Health Reporter and freelance contributor/writer at CNN International as well as being a Publicist for CVS Corporation, America's largest drugstore and my pharmacy employer of 15 years. My real niche was for music which I grew up with. I always wanted to review music, interview celebrities and more....but my parents wanted me in the medical field. After dropping out of Harvard Medical School, I ended up being a Pharmacist instead. My dreams came true when I launched Keminications Media blog network in Atlanta in 2004 where I got to interview a lot of music stars. One of my first was Kanye West in 2004. It was memorable.

Then I worked with Ludacris' mom Roberta Shields on a project as well as working with L'il Scrappy and Bow Wow's moms "Mama Dee" and Teresa Caldwell at several events and community shows. What about all the interviews granted me in Canada by record labels who facilitated my meeting their artists? Marcus Tamm, Sara Milne, Kevin Ash and Mima Agozzino of Universal Music Canada, Bob Hoch of Sony BMG NYC and Canada, Terrie Barksey, Shauna Jessiman, Eric Alper of Koch Records Canada, Joanna Dine and Ken Greene of Warner Music Canada, David Miller of Atlantic Records NYC, Tamara Shelly of Tiltrock Records and Allie Page of Canadian Idol who gave me access to cover Idol and even interview Natasha Bedingfield and Rudy Blair of 680 News plus Addi Stewart of NOW Toronto.

I will never forget those who loved my work and gave me access and a chance. BET's Publicist, Lyntina Townsend, Kristina Bevk of BET Online in NYC, Crystal Puccio at VH1 who was the first to contact me in Oct 2007 saying that they liked my blog so much that they were adding it to VH1's blogroll which I really thought was a prank till I called the number which answered as MTVN Mix. (MTV Networks) They gave me a lot of encouragement. Lest we forget my friends at the Chicago World HQ of Playboy. Publicist Tina Manzo who always gives me a lot of access with all Playboy happenings in town.

Also Orin Bristol, the club manager who kindly invited me to Circa niteclub to get some occasional coverage for HipHossip whenever I asked.
