HIPHOSSIP'S AFTERNOON CHAT WITH THE DYNAMIC R&B ARTIST ESTELLE.

Like I said on Sunday's post, we really had fun at the sound check session at the Estelle, Gym Class Heroes and The Roots concert. I arrived with my pumpkin KJ, my PA Gilly and my intern Prince Young both upcoming local artists as well.

Ken Green from Warner Music welcomed us at the door and as we were waiting for our turn to meet Estelle, in comes Travis McCoy and then he runs out and all I could hear KJ saying was "mom, that's the guy from GCH." When Travis passed by again, KJ went to hi-five him and suddenly Travis grabbed KJ above his neck. See, KJ likes that neck thing. Rapper Kid Famous carried him on the neck too at the Flow 93.5FM breakfast birthday back in the Summer.....

Later, Estelle arrived and she was doing her different mini interviews with magazines and online publications but when she got to our area, KJ was so starstruck that he turned frozen and shy. Look at the difference in the video. He didn't believe his eyes! It was really Estelle. They both spoke softly and I had to amplify their voices to the best I could do.

KJ's questions were as follows

1. Estelle, am I the first kid in the world to interview you?--Estelle says YES you are!
   
2. Tell me about Boris Johnson, the London U.K Mayor who called black kids picaninnies!--Estelle told KJ that the Mayor was not very clever when he said that. Picaninnies is a derogatory term used for African children.
   
3. Will you wait outside if you see Mary J Blige go into a store?--Estelle laughed and told KJ that she met Mary J at a club already. KJ asked that as he read on Wikipedia that Estelle would love to work with Mary J and being that Estelle was discovered thru her persistence by waiting outside a restaurant that Kanye West just went into. Their paths crossed and the rest is history.

Later on I asked her about that Kanye path crossing experience and that you have to hear on the video. My interview format was very casual, KJ with me and a simple chat which I was content with along with our nice photo session which KJ stole all of the show with. He later presented Estelle with gifts. Two thank you cards, a key ring telling her they were the keys to Canada and of course a copy of our Canadian themed scarves since Estelle really loves scarves.

While we were there we bumped into the dynamic and wonderful President of UMAC, the Urban Music Association of Canada, Will Strickland above. Strickland even did a drop for HipHossip loving the site you know. That's like Russell Simmons or Kevin Lyles telling you they love HipHossip. Will's Canada's Hip-hop Godfather! LOL! Oh BTW, those drops are coming from the BET awards. Wait till you see what they said about HipHossip.

The $20 Canadian bill is KJ's paycheck in cash. He earns $20/hr as HipHossip Kid Reporter. He couldn't wait for the payroll office the next payday. Hey kid, better explain that cash to Canada Revenue (Our IRS) Looks like Ken's trying to compete on who's got the larger bill. He made KJ just feel good! BTW, Ken's was a $5 bill. Couple pleads guilty to selling drugs to singer Amy Winehouse.

A British couple who sold video footage of singer Amy Winehouse apparently smoking crack to a newspaper have pleaded guilty to drug charges. Johnny Blagrove and Cara Burton admitted in court Friday they offered to supply drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, to Winehouse. Prosecutors say the pair covertly filmed Winehouse and sold the footage to The Sun newspaper. In January the paper published the images, which appeared to show the singer smoking crack cocaine.

Detectives decided there was not enough evidence to charge Winehouse but they charged the couple. Prosecutor Sean Larkin says police who raided the couple's home found a list of celebrities they supplied with drugs, including Winehouse. A judge ordered the couple to return Nov. 28 for sentencing.

Gosh it's a shame what they did to her and vice versa to herself! Scary enuff for Halloween!

JADAKISS BOWS TO PRESSURE TO CHANGE ALBUM NAME....AND HE DID!!!

Rapper JADAKISS has been forced to change the name of his upcoming album KISS MY ASS after the title received negative feedback from retailers. The Lox star has now bowed to industry pressure and the LP will now be called The Last Kiss. He says, "I had to change the name of my album. Kiss My Ass wasn't testing well at retail. Not even with the exclamations or none of that. So we had to switch it to The Last Kiss." But the MC insists the title isn't hinting at his retirement - it's just the end of an era.
He adds,

"Some people asked me is it my last album. Nah, it's just ... the first album was Kiss The Game Goodbye, the second one was The Kiss of Death, so this one was The Last Kiss. It's the closing of a trilogy. "It's the last time I'm going to name one of my albums, it's the last time 'Kiss' is going to be in the album titles. This is why this is The Last Kiss."

AFTER COMEBACK, JANET JACKSON CANCELS YET ANOTHER TOUR STOP!

JANET JACKSON has cancelled a concert in Connecticut altogether, just weeks after postponing it because of illness. The Nasty hitmaker was forced to cancel a string of shows at the start of October (08) after suffering from a bout of vertigo, but she returned to the stage on 15 October (08) and resumed the remaining dates on her Rock Witchu tour.

But she has now scrapped the Connecticut gig completely amidst reports of poor ticket sales. A statement released by concert venue bosses at Mohegan Sun Arena reads: "Mohegan Sun regrets to announce that the concert featuring Janet Jackson has been officially cancelled . There will not be a rescheduled date." Fans have been advised to return to their point of sale to get a refund.

HUDSON FAMILY TO BE LAID TO REST ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 3RD 2008.

TMZ is reporting that a memorial service for the Hudson family will be for invited guests only and, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the newly created Hudson-King Foundation.

No word on a public memorial. It's a shame they want all that privacy! The public has been there for them but then I don't have the say. R.I.P

CANADIAN IDOL HOST Ben Mulroney becomes a married man.

Ben Mulroney, 32, was wed to Jessica Brownstein, 29, in an evening ceremony at St. Patrick's Basilica.

"Fantastic," Mulroney said as he ushered his bride to a waiting limousine. Brownstein was draped in a white fur cape when she arrived for the ceremony, but was not wearing it after the service.

"We've got to get her in the car," Mulroney said as he led his new wife through a crowd of journalists.

"He's the oldest of three boys and he's been a very good son and we love him dearly," Brian Mulroney said. Read more....

Rap superstar LIL WAYNE delivered his own baby son last week. The 26-year-old became a dad for the second time on 22 October (08), when his unnamed girlfriend gave birth to Dwayne Michael Carter III. And Wayne insisted on getting involved in the delivery room. The Lollipop hitmaker - who also has an eight year old daughter Reginae with his ex-wife Antonia Johnson - tells U.S. radio station Power 105.1,

"I delivered him. I held the left leg the whole time. It was nasty, very nasty, but it was wonderful. He's the best thing to ever happen to me, next to my daughter."

RAPPER T.I. DEEMED ELIGIBLE TO VOTE

Convicted felon T.I. has been deemed eligible to exercise his vote in the upcoming U.S. election - after finding a loophole in Georgia law. The Whatever You Like hitmaker, real name Clifford Harris Jr., is facing a one year prison sentence in March next year (09) after pleading guilty to illegal possession of three machine guns and two silencers following his 2007 arrest.

The star assumed his current legal status meant he was ineligible to vote in the presidential elections next week (04Nov08), so was surprised to learn that unless he was serving probation or a prison sentence, he was still able to perform his civic duty.

And the rapper, who has been encouraging youths to go out and vote, took advantage of the rule on Wednesday (29Oct08) morning when he rushed out to a polling station in Atlanta to register his first ever vote. Brandishing a sticker reading 'I'm a Georgia Voter', he says, "It's a relief.

This what it is all about, not staying up late and waking up early to vote. Now rather than just talking about it, I'm being about it. I'm leading by example, and it makes me feel a lot better." And his lawyer Steve Sadow insists T.I. is fully entitled to vote.

He adds, "Until he is sentenced in the federal case, he doesn't have a conviction yet. Even though he is a convicted felon, he has a right to vote since he is not serving probation and hasn't started his prison sentence." T.I. has previously served time for firearms, drug and assault offences.

Music mogul SIMON COWELL was honoured at the National TV Awards in London on Wednesday (29Oct08) night with a lifetime achievement prize. The American Idol judge was presented with the accolade by theatre impresario Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber during the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

STONE KEPT ALBUM RECORDING SECRET FROM RECORD LABEL.

British soul singer JOSS STONE began recording tracks for her forthcoming album in secret - because she didn't want her label to interfere with the process. The You Had Me star is signed to EMI, which is now owned by business giant Terra Firma. The takeover in August 2007 resulted in a number of EMI's biggest artists leaving the label, including Radiohead and the Rolling Stones.

But Stone is tied to the company via her contract and she was determined to make an album that she was truly happy with - so she recorded it without her label chiefs' knowledge. She says, "I recorded the bulk of my new album in the space of a week in February this year. But it was like a secret - not a secret from the world, but a secret from the record company, because, basically, I didn't want them f**king with it.

"EMI was going through a lot of change at the time. It's a very long story but there aren't many people left there that I know now. "I recorded the album at my mum's house in Devon. It was like a building site at the time, so it was just me and a crew in two bare rooms with a mic."

AMERICAN IDOL BOSSES BLOCK CONTESTANT'S ALBUM!!!

Bosses of hit TV talent contest AMERICAN IDOL are threatening legal action against a contestant who is due to release an album with a rival record company. Participants in the reality show are tied in to contracts promising only to record music with the programme's associate label, Sony/BMG. But Josiah Leming, who appeared in the 2007 series but failed to make it into the top 24, has signed a deal with Warner Records and his debut album is due to hit shops in January (09).

However, the 19-year-old, who was homeless when he appeared on the series, may be forced to scrap plans to launch his pop career - he has received a letter from American Idol chiefs, threatening legal action if he goes ahead with releasing the LP. Leming's representative tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "Josiah was the only Idol contestant ever to get a record deal who didn't make the top 24, and one of only four contestants to get a deal this year.

He has personal reasons for getting his music out, threat or not. "His mother has terminal cancer, and nothing is going to stop him from getting his music out while she is alive to share it. His album on Warner Records will be released in late January '09."

JACKSON DROPS RAUNCHY ROUTINE.

JANET JACKSON pulled a raunchy dance routine from her concert in Michigan - to avoid falling foul of local obscenity laws. The singer has a segment in her Rock Witchu tour in which she invites a male member of the audience on stage, ties him down, and pretends to grope him as her dancers cavort around stroking themselves.

But she dropped the routine from her show at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit on Tuesday (28Oct08) - because strict state laws prohibit simulating sex acts during a public performance.
A spokesman for the venue says, "We explained the law, asked her not to do it, she complied. We did not ask her to cut the song. That was her call." The concert had originally been scheduled for 27 September (08) but the singer postponed it when she was struck down with vertigo.

Jackson's manager Kenneth Crear explained: "Janet did not want to disappoint her Detroit-area fans again, so we adhered to Michigan's state ordinance and trimmed the Discipline segment of the show so it would not be cancelled."

The raunchy routines could even cause more vertigo or something else.......Mmmm... Meanwhile LL Cool J has pulled out of the Rock witchu Tour after all the illness hitches I'm guessing.

OLD LADY LEACHMAN BOOTED FROM DANCING SHOW!

Oscar winner CLORIS LEACHMAN's Broadway career has been boosted by her appearance on hit U.S. reality show DANCING WITH THE STARS - producers have reportedly reconsidered her for a role she was rejected for last year (07). The 82-year-old star admitted she was "heartbroken" when she was turned down to reprise her role on hit Broadway show Young Frankenstein - the character she portrayed in the hit 1974 movie - due to fears over her age.

Producer Mel Brooks told Variety magazine at the time: "We're afraid the show... could kill (Leachman)... We don't want her to die onstage." Leachman was booted from Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday (28Oct08) after weeks of rigorous training in ballroom and Latin dance.
But Brooks has reportedly changed his mind despite her dismissal, impressed by the star's stamina in the demanding numbers.

According to Broadway gossip site Billymasters.com: "Mel has reached out to Leachman to see if they could make a deal - which I'm sure has nothing to do with the show's somewhat soft box office." A spokesperson for Leachman tells the New York Post: "Cloris has received several interesting offers. We cannot confirm that Young Frankenstein is one of them. For the time being, Cloris is focusing all her attention on dancing."

"We've obtained arrest reports and other docs in connection with a sting operation in Chicago. On March 4, 2002, Chicago cops targeted Jason Hudson, Jennifer's murdered brother, and Gregory King, the father of Julian, the murdered 7-year-old boy. Both men allegedly sold crack cocaine to a registered informant. Cops then raided the very home where Jason was murdered last week. According to documents, Jason, Gregory and Julia (Jennifer's sister) were all arrested.

Julia was never charged with a crime. Jason was charged with cocaine trafficking, but the main count was dismissed in 2004 because the judge ruled police conducted an illegal search. During that hearing, Jennifer's mom had to choose whether to go to Hollywood to watch her daughter on "American Idol" or be in court...she chose the latter.

Gregory was convicted. Jason agreed to enroll in a drug abuse program and the less serious remaining charge was dismissed.

Cops say Jason and Gregory were affiliated with the gang, Gangster Disciples. That's the same gang that William Balfour, the "person of interest" was in. The lawyer who repped Jason told TMZ cops often jumped to conclusions and assumed people in that neighborhood were gang members."

Update 10:28am EDT to HipHossip from an anonymous inside source in the Chicago Medical Examiner's office. The body is in fact that of Julian King, Jennifer Hudson's nephew and Julia Hudson Balfour's son! R.I.P little man. Enough is enough! We need to clean our familiy lives and live!!!!! NOT DIE!

I just got off the phone with a Chicago police spokesman and they have found A BOY'S BODY in a white SUV. Could this be the body of Julian King, Jennifer Hudson's nephew? The body found is that of a seven year old too. I am a mother of a 7 year old (KJ) and this has me reeling! I am picking this off the internal newsroom wires and becoming more devastated as this story get even more tragic. They will now have to set up a new crime scene and identify this child's body. OMG, please stay tuned to HipHossip Canada all day!

Alright, interviewing duties were taken over by Popular Culture Kid KJ who is also our HipHossip Kid Reporter and the last human species to drop out of my WOMB! I said LAST! The American boy all dressed in Canadian gear, his Idol t-shirt and flag scarf took over! He took over my job at the Estelle interview earlier this afternoon in Toronto. Kayode Joshua asked the Grammy nominated and award winning artist three great questions and then presented her with gifts!!!! O MY! Look at them chillin................

KJ even managed to get the attention of Travis McCoy lead vocalist of the Gym Class Heroes who are also performing at the Roots concert tonite in T-Dot! KJ ran to Travis and said "you are the guy from GCH and no sound check starts till I take a photo with you." Travis GRABBED him and lifted him up! Wow! This kid always uses his cuteness! KJ loves Canada so much that did I tell you that in June 2007 when we arrived, he actually told immigration authorities to keep his passport and send it back to "George Bush!" Whoa!...and he screamed it out too, embarrassing me and throwing them into one crazy laugh! They looked at him and gently said "enjoy your stay in Canada." You just have to love KJ! LOL!

THE JENNIFER HUDSON TRAGEDY CONTINUES....CHILD STILL MISSING.

Police are now giving flyers to residents door to door now to locate missing 7-year-old Julian King, Hudson's nephew. Below is a report I voiced last week for Radio Nigeria when the story broke.

WTF??? ROCKER JEREMY SISK SHOT DEAD DEFENDING BROTHER FROM BURGLARS!!

SKARD SOUL rocker JEREMY SISK has been shot dead in Texas after protecting his younger brother from burglars. The guitarist, 37, was found dead on Tuesday (22Oct08) after two men stormed his brother's apartment. Sisk's aunt Kim Parker tells Blabbermouth,

"He was trying to defend his brother, and he got shot. As much as I'd like to kill them myself, I'd rather police lock them up and they live very long lives in bars (sic)." His brother Chris adds, "Jeremy took on one of the guys and was pounding him.

The guy realised he was losing the fight, pulled a gun and shot my brother."

How sad! Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sisk family! R.I.P. These guns gotta go!

BLOC PARTY PLAY AIRPORT GIG.

British rockers BLOC PARTY have played their most surreal gig to date - beside the runway at a German airport. The band performed in the dining lounge at the Tempelhof International Airport on Thursday (23Oct08) night. And bassist Gordon Moakes admits it was a strange experience.
He says, "

It was quite exciting when we first walked in and saw the runway right next to us... But the building... reeks of old Germany."

The show is likely to be the last ever gig at the airport - it is due for closure next week (30Oct08) and will be replaced by the new Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport.

SLASH ENDORSES CHINESE DEMOCRACY ALBUM!

Former GUNS N' ROSES rocker SLASH has given the band's long-awaited comeback album the thumbs up. The guitarist quit Guns N' Roses in 1996 after falling out with frontman Axl Rose while the pair worked on the LP - which has taken 14 years to hit stores.

As Rose prepares for its 24 November (08) release, Slash - now a member of supergroup Velvet Revolver - responded positively when played a track from the disc on a Boston, Massachusetts radio station last week He told WBCN 104.1 listeners, "That sounds cool. It’s good to hear (Axl Rose’s) voice again, y’know?”

EPMD TO RELEASE FIRST ALBUM IN NINE YEARS

Legendary hip-hop duo EPMD are heading back into the studio to record their first album in nine years. Erick Sermon and Parish Smith have not released any new material together since 1999's Out of Business - but they are gearing up for a comeback this winter (09Dec08).

The pair has recruited help from Raekwon, Keith Murray, Havoc from Mobb Deep, and rap pioneer KRS-One for the album's tracks, while the LP will be produced by the likes of Teddy Riley and 9th Wonder.

MICK JAGGER'S EX BIANCA EVICTED FROM NEW YORK APARTMENT!!

SIR MICK JAGGER's ex-wife BIANCA has been evicted from her New York apartment after court officials ruled she could not list the pad as her "primary residence" while living in the city on a tourist visa. The state Court of Appeals upheld a ruling on former model/actress Bianca Jagger's eviction from her $4,600 (£2,944) a-month Park Avenue apartment on Thursday (23Oct08). Nicaraguan-born Jagger - who also has a home in London - is in New York on a B2 visa, requiring a "principal, actual dwelling place" outside the United States.

Court officials state: "Under the Rent Stabilization Code, a landlord may recover possession of a rent stabilised apartment from a tenant whose lease has expired if the apartment is not occupied by the tenant... as his or her primary residence." But Jagger insists she's only being evicted because she sued her landlord after complaining of water leaks and mould. She reportedly continued to pay her rent into an escrow account despite deeming the apartment unlivable during the three years prior to her eviction.

A judge will decide whether she or landlord Katz Park Avenue is entitled to the money. Jagger tells the New York Post: "I was a good tenant. I was paying my rent. What I expected in return was a habitable apartment, not one that would endanger my health. "What people need to think about when they look at my case is, 'Are tenants being protected by the law, or are landlords allowed to use the courts to get rid of tenants who have reasons to be concerned?'"

FALLOUT DUDE PETE WENTZ: 'NORMALITY IS A WEIRD FANTASY'

PETE WENTZ dreams about having a "normal" life so he and wife ASHLEE SIMPSON can get on without intrusion. The Fall Out Boy rocker and the singer are expecting their first child next month (Nov08). And Wentz dreams of not being a celebrity they can have fun away from the public eye, without being recognised.

He says, "Everyone writes stories about Ashlee and I going out to nightclubs or whatever but nobody writes about how much fun we had just riding mountain bikes and hanging out in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. "There was no-one there to recognise us. It was fun, being 'normal' like everyone else. It's like a weird fantasy to have."
