DJ Toomp born Aldrin Davis is an American record producer and DJ who works in Atlanta, Georgia. He is known for producing T.I.'s chart-topping hit, "What You Know." More recently, he contributed to production on Kanye West's Graduation, including producing the singles "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Good Life" with West, and the song "Say Hello" on Jay-Z's latest album American Gangster. He and hip hop veteran Bernard Parks, Jr. have launched their own record label called NZone Entertainment.

Bernard Parks Jr. the other half of the NZone Entertainment has music industry roots that reach back to the birth of the new Motown, Atlanta, GA. Parks was one of the masterminds behind Goodie Mob, Organized Noize and the Dungeon Family. He was an instrumental part of the creative explosion back in the early 90’s that gave birth to the music hotbed Atlanta is today. Parks says of his partner. “Me, I’m the aggressive one, I handle the business side and we balance each other out!"

DJ Toomp is known for his unique snares that can be heard on almost every single T.I. song he produced since early 2000s. He recently just earned his first R&B credit for producing "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time", a track on Mariah Carey's new album, and calls it a "dynamite of a song".

I met with DJ Toomp with a one hour notice at his downtown Toronto hotel. He was with his Manager and business partner hip-hop veteran Bernard Parks Jr. I sat down and we started our interview by asking him exactly how he started to love the art of producing. I joked about my own producing for fun and then I asked him six strategic questions......

1. On how he began producing, he told me his dad was in a music group and he always looked at the back of LP's and albums to see who produced and who did what. His dad taught him quite a lot in the music business. I asked him some of my favourite parts in Kanye's songs and the special effects.
   
2. On being known, I asked him if he had the need to be known? He said he's not the one to be known per say and that he has produced so many award winning artists like T.I, Pastor Troy, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Young Buck, Young Jeezy, 8Ball and MJG, Bone , Thugs n' Harmony, Missy Elliott, Mike Jone, L'il Jon and more! He's not one to dance in music videos. I believe some producers that did that were Diddy and Jermaine Dupri. He does not identify his tracks cos they have their own identity. Every Producer has their style. He talked about how he discovered Clifford Harris (T.I)
3. MC Shy D was a rapper that gave him his big break by allowing him to tour alongside him. On his success today, I asked him what would Shy D say? He said Shy D is definitely proud of him and he thanked him for that early opportunity.
   
4. What brings you to our Hollywood here called Toronto? He said he was working on a new album for Ludacris. Chris himself is here in Toronto filming a new movie.
   
5. On becoming a Producer-Rapper, the phenomenom that became controversial by record labels when Kanye West decided to be a rapper after years of being known as a Producer. He said NO! He's already rapped and producing is what he loved doing.
6. My final and big question was about Canadian Rappers. Granted that I lived in the USA for 24 years and moved here 11 months ago, I changed my 4 year old blog from a celebrity news blog to a hip-hop music blog as I noticed that Canada was lacking good hiphop coverage from the States and also for it's own rappers. I specifically asked Toomp if he was scouting Canadian talent and he replied that he was scouting talent around the world PERIOD!

WRONG USHER!: "Chris Brown is the next me" says Usherama!

R&B star USHER has hailed fellow singer CHRIS BROWN as a younger version of himself - insisting the star will "follow the same path". Usher, 29, was just 15 when he released his self-titled debut album in 1994 and has gone on to forge a highly successful music career. And the You Make Me Wanna hitmaker is convinced Brown, 19, is all set to follow in his footsteps and dominate the R&B scene. He says, "All of this young energy is great for the industry. Chris is the guy who dances and sings, which is a lot like I do and did as a young artist as well. "If time serves us correctly, and artists are continuing to better themselves, then hopefully he'll follow the same path that I did."

HE'S RICH--YOU'RE NOT: NE-YO UNFAZED BY FANS CHOICE!

R&B singer NE-YO refuses to be hurt when fans prefer his collaborations with BEYONCE KNOWLES, RIHANNA AND MARY J. BLIGE to his solo hits. The So Sick hitmaker has collaborated with a variety of high profile stars in between juggling his own recording career.

But Ne-Yo is determined to carry on making his own albums and ignore critics' calls to stick solely to songwriting. He says, "One thing I am hearing a lot lately is 'Ne-Yo is at his best when writing for other people'. Which is strange. I don't mind it. Who cares as long as his mama above loves it!

"Honestly as long as your head is nodding to the music, I'm cool. It don't matter who's singing it. "At the end of the day my music, be it a song I put out for myself or a song I put out with (someone else) - it's still all my vision." I actually like Ne-Yo's solo work. I listen to that entire CD daily on my morning shower routine.

GET WELL SOON: BROKEN FOOT WRECKS MYA'S BROADWAY DREAMS!!

R&B star MYA's Broadway dreams have taken a big hit - she has been forced to postpone her debut in CHICAGO with a broken foot. The Grammy Award-winning star was slated to begin a nine-week run as Velma Kelly in the hit musical on 12 May (08). Producer Barry Weissler says, "Speaking for the entire Chicago creative team, we all wish her a speedy recovery, and look forward to experiencing her portrayal of Velma Kelly as soon as possible." We too at hiphossip and I was planning to interview her on the play. I will be talking to her publicist tonite!

POSITIVE NAS: NAS PULLS 'DISS' TRACKS FROM LIVE SHOWS

Rapper NAS has been forced to pull some of his fans' favourite anthems from live shows - because he no longer has issues with those he criticises on records. The I Can hitmaker admits there are some tunes he may never perform again because he has made peace with those he disses.
One fan favourite that Nas no longer plays live is Ether - rumoured to be about fellow rapper Jay-Z - but his devotees still yell for it at shows. He says, "After the first year, there was no need to be out there yelling people's names and cursing them out... You're out there saying people's names that you've since reconciled (with)."

LATEST: JENNIFER LOPEZ has denied fans the chance of an in-depth look at her world in her forthcoming reality TV show - as the program will not feature any aspects of her personal life.The singer/actress was reported to have given the camera crew licence to follow her while she tries to juggle her music and acting careers with motherhood. But now the star has insisted the program, commissioned for U.S. cable channel TLC, will only cover launch of her new fragrance - and not her home life. Who wants to watch some perfume reality show. Cancel the damn thing!

Lopez's manager Simon Fields has revealed that anyone hoping for a glimpse of her life with husband Marc Anthony and their baby twins will be disappointed. He tells People.com, "The recent show Jennifer Lopez plans to produce for TLC is not a reality show. "It's a show that will track the creation, production and eventual launch of a new fragrance. Jennifer will appear in a creative, entrepreneurial capacity and will absolutely not feature her children and family life."

CRAZY-NESS: Amy Winehouse reportedly leaving her record label!!!

AMY WINEHOUSE is reportedly planning on leaving her music label Island Records after the release of her next LP. The Back To Black hitmaker is on a three-album deal with the British-based firm, a subsidiary of Universal Music, and is said to be keen on quitting as soon as she completes her third disc. And the star is reportedly planning on shunning other music labels in favour of setting up her own company - giving her complete control over her music.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "For the first time in her career, Amy is beginning to have her head turned by the cash she can make. "It's never been a huge deal in the past, but she is beginning to realise everyone else is making all the money out of her success. Her deal with Island ends after the next record. That's why they are trying to get her to clean up first and make sure it's a classic. "Once she gets that out she wants to set up her own label. She plans to release her own material on it."

HELP: Roaches INVADE Newbie's apartment!!!

Newbie is the new morning show producer at Flow 93.5FM. He spoke about his dilemma on the air in his new apartment since he just moved to Toronto. He signed the lease and then roaches started to come out of every room. Poor thing! Toronto has some environmental issues Newbie, with pain relievers in the water, (that could be a plus/money saver for my aching blogger's back) roaches in apartments, generations of mice families etc. Callers called and text in for solutions. One stupid caller I believe told him to kill them with a shoe and he tried that already with roach parts everwhere! Ewwwwwwwwwww!

These Canadian roaches are out of their minds. They even want to eat with you on the table!!!! I had a few my first 2 months here after signing the damn lease (yeah Newbie) and some sticky gel thing was put down , they ate it and you never see them again. Awwww.........I hate PESTS! Never had that in the States!

Christopher Charles Lloyd (born April 30, 1982), better known by his stage name, Lloyd Banks, is an American rapper and member of the rap group G-Unit. Lloyd Banks grew up around the corner from 50 Cent and Tony Yayo so they would usually rap together; they starred in many city shows. He has the lowest profile of the G-Unit clan and did have his own controversy with the exit of The Game from G-Unit, reports claiming that they did not get along! Happy birthday Mr Banks!

GOTHIC--FELLA: Damon Dash accused of taking his teen kid to visit his uncle's body AT THE MORGUE! (Uncle commited suicide!)

Music mogul DAMON DASH has been accused of taking his teenage son to visit a relative's dead body in a morgue. So? What happened to paying respects? Wait a minute....I think I said MORGUE!! Not funeral home. That's graphic Dame!

Linda Williams - the mother of Dash's 16-year-old son Damon Dash II - has added the claim to her ongoing custody battle with the star. She insists the star took their son to a mortuary to identify his uncle, who had committed suicide by a gunshot to the head. Now that's freaking graphic Dame. The kid can end up with PTSD (Post traumatic stress syndrome.)

In documents filed at the Family Court of the State of New York, Williams further claims her son - who is currently residing with Dash - is "living with no hot water (sic) or electricity for two months in his bedroom". Williams demands Dash pay $3,600 for their son to go to the city's Hoftstra Basketball Camp and place $10 million in a trust fund. Williams has been fighting Dash for custody since 2003. That's a long time!! Dash - who is expecting his second child with wife Rachel Roy - was unavailable for comment.

WU-TAN-BAD: RZA CRITICISED FOR BAD BEHAVIOUR AT SCOTTISH GIG!

WU TANG CLAN star RZA's latest performance sparked outrage in Scotland after he smoked a cigarette on stage and invited female fans to strip. The notorious rapper deliberately flouted the U.K.'s smoking ban during a performance in Glasgow by lighting up - and followed his law-breaking with an invitation for scantily-clad women to join him on stage. The Brooklyn rapper - real name Robert F Digs - was playing at the Arches club last Saturday 26th when a group of women joined him on stage and removed their tops, exposing their breasts.

A spokesman for the venue confirmed the women took their tops off, which was deemed "unacceptable by management". The offending females "were then subsequently asked to leave the club".

COLLABORAMA: Why on earth does Usher wanna record a duet with John Mayer?

R&B star USHER is desperate to record collaborations with both rocker JOHN MAYER and singer/songwriter MICHAEL BUBLE. The You Make Me Wanna hitmaker has included a duet with fellow singer Ne-Yo on his new album, Here I Stand, but has now picked out the two other stars for possible future projects. And Usher - real name Usher Raymond IV - has even picked out which songs he would like to reinterpret with each artist.

He says, "I'd like to do something with John Mayer on this song I have on my album called Something Special. I'd love him to play guitar and sing with me on that. "And I'd love to perform my other song Forever with Michael Buble. I actually wrote that with the intention of him and me doing it together."

JUDGORAMA: Paula makes a blunder on "Idol" last night!

AMERICAN IDOL judge PAULA ABDUL was left red-faced after making an embarrassing blunder on the hit reality TV show. The singer was flummoxed after the series' producers changed the judging format from the usual pattern of appraising each contest after they had sung to waiting until all five had performed. When asked to appraise first performer Jason Castro, Abdul gave her opinions on two performances - even though each singer had only sung once.

She told contestant Jason Castro, "Oh gosh, we've never had to write these things down ... fast enough. Jason, first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear, um ... .
"The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn't - it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty. The two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four." The audience launched into nervous laughter, before fellow judge Randy Jackson reminded Abdul each performer had only sung once, telling her, "That was just on the first song. Just on the first one."

She responded, "Oh my god, I thought you - I thought you sang twice!" before explaining she had got mixed up with her notes for the next performer, David Cook.
Abdul later blamed American Idol producers for her mix up, telling TV show Entertainment Tonight she has been "in the dark" over the change in format.
Fellow judge Simon Cowell also admitted the switch had been difficult, saying, "This was officially the strangest show we've ever done but I like that. It's kind of a bit chaotic tonight."

Lawyers for two U.S. newspapers and a news agency have filed an emergency motion at Illinois Supreme Court asking for the publication of intimate details of R. KELLY's trial for alleged child pornography offences. The I Believe I Can Fly hitmaker is currently awaiting trial on 14 counts of child pornography, with proceedings due to start in May (08). But now the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Associated Press are asking for the court to release sealed court records and transcripts to the press, filing papers on Monday (28Apr08).

If the bid is successful it would see lurid details of the case published across the globe. Judge Vincent Gaughan has insisted he will try to protect Kelly's rights and prevent information from influencing prospective jurors. The 41-year-old star has pleaded not guilty to the charges which see him accused of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.

UMBRELLARAMA: NE-YO TURNED DOWN SPICE GIRLS FOR RIHANNA .

Singer/songwriter NE-YO was approached by the SPICE GIRLS to write tracks for their recent Greatest Hits album - but he turned them down in favour of working with RIHANNA. The So Sick hitmaker was busy working with the Umbrella songstress when he received the call from the newly reformed girl band.

And the R&B star was forced to say no as he couldn't fit them into his hectic schedule. He says, "The Spice Girls asked me to write some songs but I couldn't find the time. "They wanted something for their comeback album but I never got round to getting it done. I was recording songs for Rihanna at the time." The Spice girls are done!

MUSIC RIGHTS VIOLATION: Black Eye Peas need a black eye for going to play in China!

Anytime I black and white a picture of me and a celeb, I'm very upset! BLACK EYED PEAS rapper WILL.I.AM has rubbished claims the band won't play a gig in China despite calls for artists to boycott the country over its terrible human rights record. A host of celebrities such as George Clooney and Richard Gere have called on fellow artists to snub China as a performance destination to force the country to allow Tibet to decide its own future. The Where Is The Love hitmaker - real name William Adams - branded the recent crackdown "messed up" and thinks it was wrong to "punish a whole country".

He says, "They have all this Chinese boycott stuff - they want to boycott the games but do the people get punished when they have nothing to do with what's going on? "If you boycott China, when do they boycott America for what we're doing in Iraq?" Actress Mia Farrow has publicly condemned China for its alleged support of genocide in Sudan's Darfur region and director Steven Spielberg stepped down from his position as artistic director for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Oh, BTW, Fergie was in the bathroom when that picture was taken and I had to go. Bad move considering she is now the famous one and I have no picture with her!!!

Hip Hop Pioneers Descend On Detroit For Stop The Violence Weekend.

Hip Hop Pioneers Kurtis Blow,The Legendary Grandmaster Jay, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Whodini, and The Sugar Hill Gang will appear in Detroit during The 1st Annual Stop The Violence Weekend May 2nd-4th On Friday superstars Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Jay are scheduled to speak to students at three of Detroit's middle and highschools prior to a press conference to address the recent increases in gang behavior and violence involving Detroit's youth. The rest of the hip hop pioneers will participate in a concert at the world famous Fox Theater on Saturday night.

With a host of events ranging from a power luncheon with city officials to appearing on local newscasts to discuss the causes and solutions of youth violence, to taking part in a Stop The Violence March, this weekend of events will culminate in the stars addressing the 3000 member congregation of The Perfecting Church on Sunday May 4, 2008 which is pastored by Marvin Winans. Event organizer Marshelle Lumas of Infinity Solutions stated ' The time for this type of event is right now. The very future of our communities is at stake when the victims and perpetrators of this sensless violence are our children. They need to hear this message of hope and inspiration from the very role models they follow.' The Stop The Violence Weekend is being presented as a joint venture between The Better Detroit Youth Movement, The City of Detroit, and a host of organizations and sponsors, all united in this effort to reach the youth.

The Better Detroit Youth Movement has been working to assist Detroit youth in making better choices, channeling aggression into positive efforts and community activism. Not to be confused with The Stop the Violence Movement, originally formed by KRS One in 1988, this collective effort is being considered by many as the blueprint for similar events in other cities across America. The Stop The Violence Weekend will be presented as follows:

NO SPICE: Mel B denies a Spice concert for Nelson Mandela's birthday!

MELANIE BROWN has dismissed rumours the SPICE GIRLS are to reunite one final time to perform for former South African President NELSON MANDELA. The girl band concluded their comeback tour earlier this year (08) but were reported to be planning a last gig at Mandela's 90th birthday celebration concert in London's Hyde Park in June (08). Sporty Spice Melanie Chisholm fuelled speculation recently by remarking, "We're great friends of Mr. Mandela and we would love to perform for him again." But now Brown has put an end to the rumours, insisting the band have no plans to appear at the event.

She says, "I don't think we are. I did hear about that and we're all big fans of Nelson Mandela but I don't think we're going to be doing that. "I know we all have a lot of stuff going on. I know that I'm here (in Los Angeles) working probably until the end of the year. But I know I don't have a break. But he's a great guy. I can't believe he's 90." The Wannabe hitmakers met Mandela during a visit to Johannesburg in 1997, when he famously referred to them as his "heroes". The Spice girls are finished! Done! Kaput!

CRUSH ALERT: WILL.I.AM TIPS COLE TO REPLACE FERGIE.

BLACK EYED PEAS rapper WILL.I.AM has a back up plan in case singer FERGIE ever decides to leave the group - he will replace her with British pop star CHERYL COLE. The My Humps hitmakers are currently on hiatus while various members of the group pursue solo projects - but plan on getting back together for future albums and tours. But will.i.am recently collaborated with Cole on his new single Heartbreaker and he insists that if Fergie decides not to rejoin them, Cole would be first in line to take her place. He says, "If we didn't (have) Fergie, she (Cole) would be in the Peas that's how cool she is." He just announced he has a crush on her!

In one segment of the harrowing new film, the star reveals a young widow is forced to have sex three times with a stranger from outside her village as part of a cleansing ritual. She says, "When this woman's husband dies of Aids, she is required by the village head tribal chief to go through this sexual cleansing. UNFROZEN ICE: VANILLA ICE BATTERY CHARGES DROPPED

LATEST: Rapper VANILLA ICE will not face charges for domestic battery after his case was dropped by prosecutors, according to reports. The star - real name Robert Van Winkle - had been arrested and told to keep away from his wife, Laura, after his arrest earlier this month (Apr08).

It is believed Laura called police to report her husband was hitting and kicking her at their Palm Beach County, Florida home on 10 April (08). But the charges were dropped on Tuesday (29Apr08), after Laura retracted her statement and there were no independent witnesses to the alleged assault.The restraining order was also lifted, reports TMZ.com. Van Winkle was arrested in 2004 over similar domestic battery charges.

LONGTIME ROMEO! : Master P, Romeo Entertain Kids During Earth Day, Introduce New Cartoon Character.

Father and son team, Master P and Romeo Miller, welcomed more than 20,000 kids to the Children's Earth Day festival on Sunday (April 27) at the STAR ECO Station in Rocklin, California.

During the event, Romeo received the STAR Academics and Literacy Success Award -- their highest honor -- in recognition of his academic achievements, commitment to the community, and his efforts in helping educate children worldwide. His father, Percy Miller (aka Master P), was honored as well, by receiving the STAR Ambassador of Education Award for his advocacy of education and social responsibility.

The 18-year-old rapper/basketball player, with the help of his dad, also introduced Gee Gee the Magical Giraffe, the main character of an educational children's book and cartoon developed by Romeo and created by his 8-year-old sister Itali Miller. They have been plans to make Gee Gee the next branded character among children, via coloring books, cartoons and even clothing.

Blackstreet's Chauncey Black Signs To Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Label.

Former Blackstreet member Chauncey Black has just been snatched up by Busta Rhymes for his Flipmode label via Interscope. According to the singer, he ran into Busta during a studio session in Virginia Beach, and after seeing his intensity while working, he seized the opportunity to show Busta that his seriousness about his own solo endeavor. "This cat goes hard! I need to be in this camp," he remembered of the session. After impressing Busta, he landed a deal, and it's Flipmode for life, and reportedly has a tattoo to prove it.

"I wanted to get with a team that could give me that hip-hop feel, but also a team that would give me creative control. Busta let me do my whole record," said Chauncey of the new deal. "He saw the history with Blackstreet and trusted me." Through the deal, Chauncey will release his solo debut, titled Church Boy, which he says is "hard, soulful street music." As one of the founding members of the supergroup, Blackstreet, he scored a string of radio and pop hits such as "Before I Let You Go" and "Don't Leave Me." But it was the breakthrough success of "No Diggity" that helped them reach no. 1, largely due to help from Dr. Dre. His solo debut, Church Boy, does not have a release date as of press time. Although many have written him off as a one-hit wonder by critics, Soulja Boy Tell Em's legions of fans -- most of them being kids -- don't care. They support the 17-year-old rapper and that's who he's rapping for. The Atlanta rapper told MTV recently that he's working on his new album, with a focus on his fanbase -- the kids. "My new album is called Back to School," Soulja Boy. "Basically, it is really me taking it back to the basics. It's time to start studying again. Make it happen, man. ... The time I drop the album, everybody is gonna be going back to school. My fans are 21 and under. That's what I'm focusing on." So that's why the tour has been rescheduled for back to school!

THE GAME DEDICATES TRACK TO MURDERED SEAN BELL.

Rapper THE GAME has dedicated a song on his new album to slain SEAN BELL, in a bid to highlight 'police corruption'. The hip-hop star wrote new track 911 Is A Joke following the controversial verdict surrounding the Bell case. Bell was gunned down in New York in 2006. Last week (25Apr08), three New York detectives stood trial for manslaughter and reckless endangerment, but were found not guilty. And The Game - Jayceon Terrell Taylor - felt the Bell family never received justice.

A source tells British magazine Hello, "She's always adored animals since she was a little girl and has been a vegetarian since the age of 12. "The reason she doesn't wear diamonds is because she doesn't know how they have been sourced.
