Sad Day: Toronto loses Chris "Punch" Andrews to lung cancer at 43!

Local radio announcer and traffic reporter Chris “Punch” Andrews died yesterday of lung cancer. He was 43. Andrews was known as Punch on 99.9 MIX FM, where he hosted the Saturday Night Party, and as Chris Andrews on CFRB, where he did traffic reporting.

He started his career at Cable 10 in Aurora as an on-air host at the age of 17, co-workers at Astral Media said. While studying radio and television at Ryerson University, Andrews began working at a Newmarket radio station, eventually leaving to become a producer at AM 640.
After three months, he left for Prince Edward Island to become an evening announcer at a station there, returning to Toronto two years later to do overnights at MIX. He did several jobs at the station.

Andrews also taught communications technology classes at Vaughan Secondary School and Humber College. A tribute can be found at 999mixfm.com and condolences left at the Facebook group “The Chris 'Punch’ Andrews Support Posse.” R.I.P

BREAKING NEWS! SEAN LEVERT COLLAPSES IN JAIL CELL THEN DIES IN THE HOSPITAL!

Just days after I reported that Sean Levert was sent to jail for 22 months for not paying child support in the amount of nearly $80,000, he was found dead in his cell. Sean Levert, son of O'Jays lead singer Eddie Levert, COLLAPSED in a Cleveland, Ohio, jail over the weekend, then died in the hospital sources said.

Sean Levert, 39, was being held for allegedly failing to pay about $80,000 in child support. The cause of death was not immediately known. Sean Levert was a member of the R&B group LeVert with his late brother Gerald Levert and Marc Gordon. Gerald Levert died Nov. 10, 2006 at the age of 40. Sean Levert had recently completed an album with Gordon, sources said. Sean Levert appeared in the movies Dope Case Pending (2000) and New Jack City (1991). Now the woman and her children looking for back child support now have a sadder problem on their hands! R.I.P

Rihanna and Chris Brown both walked the orange carpet at the Kids' Choice Awards. Separately. "We're not in a relationship or anything," Brown told The Associated Press before Saturday's slime-filled ceremony.

Rumours have been swirling for months the R&B singers are dating, but Brown was quick to squash such gossip, insisting he was single and Rihanna was just a friend. The 18-year-old "Kiss Kiss" crooner, clad in a custom-made orange hoodie emblazoned with a blingin' Nickelodeon logo, later collected a trophy for favourite male singer.

Rihanna, 20, bypassed the press line before the awards ceremony, strutting down the carpet in a polka-dot corset top.

Rapper Wyclef Jean asks Haitians to give up crime!

In a radio ad sponsored by the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti, Grammy Award-winning musician Wyclef Jean is asking his fellow citizens to give up crime and work to improve the country. Geez, in this article, it's like everyone over there is some bad guy! That's W up there with his cute baby gal.

Rapper Tone Loc plans shows at bars that got scammed by impersonator.

Tone Loc plans to play shows at two bars in the Detroit area that were swindled by a man posing as the rapper's manager.

The AP reports that Tone Loc will play April 11 at the Red Dog Saloon in Milford and April 12 at Bumpers in Westland. Red Dog owner Patty McMillan gave about $400 last summer to a man posing as Tone Loc's manager who promised his client would perform at her bar. Authorities say the man also scammed Bumpers out of $1,000. The scam artist hasn't been caught.

McMillan and Judy Johnson of Bumpers contacted Tone Loc's real manager and the rapper offered to play the shows for his regular fee. The rapper, whose real name is Anthony Terrel Smith, is known for the hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina."(watch)

Pop icon Nelly Furtado lights Toronto during Earth Hour.

Toronto rocked to pop star Nelly Furtado's live concert 'Turn off the Lights' during Earth Hour, as the city joined the worldwide movement for environmental awareness and energy conservation. Before the city switched off lights to mark Earth Hour 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, thousands of residents poured into the Nathan Phillips Square in the heart of downtown to enjoy a free concert by the Canadian musician.

Nelly Furtado, a Vancouver-born singer, songwriter and musician of Portuguese origin, is known for experimenting with different sounds, music, genres and vocal styles. The venue was packed to capacity and the media were out in full force. All one could see was camera flashlights when Furtado, dressed in all black, sang 'Turn off the Lights' with a guitar.

Toronto's landmark CN Tower, which till last year was the tallest structure in the world before the Burj Tower in Dubai overtook it, and the famous Rogers Centre switched off lights to mark the token energy conservation hour. Almost all major corporate houses and hotels in downtown Toronto joined the Earth Hour by switching off their neon logos.

Said Mayor David Miller: 'We are proud to be the lead city in Canada fighting to save the environment and supporting the Earth Hour.' Many high-rise condominiums in Toronto and in neighbouring Mississauga switched off power for the worldwide conservation movement launched by the World Wildlife Fund. Millions of Canadians, along with Americans in Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Francisco and dozen of other communities- small and large - joined mayors, citizens' groups, schools and corporations from coast to coast in switching off their lights.

People from five continents across the globe took part in the Earth Hour to make a statement about the global climate change. The Toronto authorities reported 900 MW less of power consumption in Ontario province - known as the powerhouse of the Canadian economy - during the Earth Hour. About a third of the 300,000 people worldwide who signed an online pledge with the WWF for Earth Hour were from Canada. This is not surprising as the green movement was born in this country and the Green Party enjoys widespread support among Canadians.

Earth Hour was also observed in all other cities across the country.

Don't we just make a great couple? I love older men 20 years more than I am. The sugar daddy syndrome! Uncle Junebug is Calvin Broadus's (Snoop Dogg's uncle) and you can see the resemblance. You have probably seen him on many stages dancing with Snoop during concerts. He's no back up singer yo! Many people nicknamed him "Papa Snoop" as hip-hop fans think he's actually Snoop's dad. Below is a photo later that evening when Snoop performed. He was really kicking it! They really loved Africa!

I was doing spring cleaning yesterday when I spotted these pictures taken October 2006 in Nigeria when Uncle Junebug took me to brunch at the posh Eko hotel in Lagos, Nigeria where the entire tour was staying. Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ciara, Missy, Snoop, Busta, En Vogue etc. It was sort of an interview/breakfast date. Snoop and Rio were still in bed as the concert was not till 8pm. Check out the bling. What a nice man!

Mos Def to play Chuck Berry in Cadillac Records.

US rapper and actor Mos Def is to play Chuck Berry in a new film about the legendary record label Chess Records. Cadillac Records, written and directed by Darnell Martin, is set in the 1950s and will follow the lives of Leonard Chess, the man who founded Chess Records, and some of its famous artists. This is the same movie Beyonce plays Etta James in.

LL Cool J Signs 15 Year Old Rapper Nicolette.

L Cool J has signed an unknown 15 year old female rapper named Nicolette and he thinks she will be the next big thing.

Nicolette will also the first act to join LL's new Platinum Harvest music label and speaking of her potential, he says: "I would put her on a record with anybody and see what they think as far as competition. She's unbelievable. She's a star, not just somebody spitting bars in my face... She can rap... She's the truth."

LL Cool J is hoping to have the same success with the young MC as he did when he introduced Foxy Brown to the hip-hop world, on his hit song I Shot Ya hit.

The "Donda West " Law has finally been introduced!

Following the death of Kanye West's mother, a bill proposed by Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto) on behalf of a Colton family member would require medical clearance for elective cosmetic surgery

The proposed legislation, which is called the "Donda West Law", is now Assembly Bill 2968. Yolanda Anderson, who has lived in Colton since 1984, has said that after her aunt died on November 10, 2007, "We felt this is something we wanted to do to make sure her death wouldn't be in vain. We don't want to let it happen to other families. We've spoken to Kanye and he's very enthusiastic about it."

Nelly wants to collaborate with Bruce Springsteen!

Nelly was mum on what a duet with Springsteen would've sounded like, but the "Hot In Herre" rapper is hopeful he'll be able to work with the "Born to Run" rock and roller later this year. There's Nelly at 9 yrs old I believe.

White Memphis Rapper "Dirty White" Survives 2 Gunshots To The Head!

Rapper Dirty White who states that he does have a lot of people hating on him, but he can't believe that a person would have so much beef with him that they would want to shoot him. The incident which occurred just a day ago happened at Winchester and Hwy 51 in between the Whitehaven and Airport area of South Memphis, TN. This guy just reminds me of Eminem.

Rapper Flo Rida Accused Of Song Jacking "Don't Know How To Act"

Florida rapper Flo Rida who's been making digital waves has been accused of song jacking according to a letter from one of the representatives for the Memphis based rap music group Stockholdaz. The song in question is the newly released song by Flo Rida "Don't Know How To Act" featuring Yung Joc which is called "Don't Know How 2 Act" by the Stockholdaz which was originally released in late 2006 produced by Memphis bred, now Atlanta based, producer Drumma Boy.

Greedy Rapper arrested for stealing Tacos......Yes Tacos, the edible ones like Taco Bell!

Aspiring California rapper Robert Echeverria aka Mr. Caliefro was arrested for pulling a taco scam at a local fast food restaurant which landed him 30 days in prison. In the taco scam, Robert Echeverria, a reported aspiring rapper and poet who goes by the name of "Mr. Caliefro" pretended to be a CEO named "Robert Kennedy" complaining about his fast-food order. The scam and fake order landed Robert and his two pals ('The Great Bambino' and 'White Noise') two quesadillas with extra chicken, seven tacos, two sodas, a large order of fries and 30 days in jail. They posted it on YouTube and that's how they got caught!

I aired this interview with Melanie on Dec 5th 2007 on my media blog and most of you are requesting it since you didn't see it and it belongs here too......The videos are coming!

What's it like working at Flow I asked her? This gorgeous radio personality grew up in Sudbury and graduated from Humber College. She says it's a wonderful family oriented atmosphere to work in and chuckles about her love-hate relationship with JJ and compares it with working with a brother. She describes her transition to a morning personality as a quick journey for her personally and did not believe in the people that said that she was not going to work in a big market such as Toronto. When you have the passion, do it! When you want to be on the air, get on the air she said as she was advised. It's never too soon. She showed persistence and it paid off!


Within 6 months she was at Flow after she graduated. As I said earlier, she attended and graduated from Humber College. I asked her about the personal lives of artists they play on the air and how important that was to her and the listener. I detailed some examples from some artists I personally knew in my Atlanta Entertainment Reporter days. She says that this is important as long as it does not get too much like the Britney Spears thing. We talked about Kanye West's mom, Whitney and Bobby and also T.I.

She did not like much of gangsta rap which she called "hard core" rap. The "ho" word and "killing people" phenomena is not for her. She also wants to set an example for her 15-year-old daughter. She told me she really admired singer Beyonce and her talents and I asked her what her dreams were. Melanie said she wanted to be on Broadway but she couldn't sing. We joked about dirty dancing which is something she would love to give a try.

I asked her about her daughter who she said that she had very young so nobody believes she has a teen daughter. She and her boyfriend have been living together for 11 years probably since the little girl was 4 years old and she does not consider herself being a single mom. Melanie told me she and her loyal boyfriend just bought a house together and one day they may get married. She does give more power to all single moms out there including me. That was nice of her to say. She's done a lot of TV at much Music, E-Talk, MTV and lots of Canadian Idol commercials and will advance her career as things come along. What a simple life! Wish we could all live like that. Thank you Melanie for that beautiful sit-down interview. Appreciate you!

Canadian Kids: I have the hip-hop lowdown for you on Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards!

Akon crashed a dune buggy into giant containers of Nickelodeon's trademark green slime, Usher blasted a sumo wrestler several yards with slime fired from a cannon and supermodel Heidi Klum , attached to a bungee cord and wearing a specially equipped "butt spike belt," flung herself into a wall covered with slime-filled balloons. "Don't try this at home," boxer Laila Ali said as Usher turned the cannon on the sumo wrestle. They were sliming each other like no man's business. Harrison Ford had it BAD with the SLIME!

Meanwhile American Idol Singer Jordin Sparks looked like a fat pregnant girl in that Nick-themed dress at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards.

Smart girl Rihanna and Brendan Fraser presented the award for Favorite Television Show and as you can see Rihanna bought her umbrella-ella-ella to avoid being slimed!

Chris Brown accepted the award for Favorite Male Singer while Rapper Lil Mama performed at the show.

It was the best of both worlds at Saturday's Kids Choice Awards for Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), who took home trophies for favorite female singer and TV actress and rocked the show with a spirited performance of her hit song, "GNO — Girls Night Out."

We'll watch it sometimes soon on regular cable. Unfortunately Turbonick.com never worked. The server crashed! Too many Canadian and other country kids were all heading there at the same time. I will ask YTV Canada's Nickelodeon contractor on Monday what the air date plans will be.

My neighbor has a dish and we are going to use this downlink co-ordinates we media outlets use to get a program in via satellite. PETA Tells Aretha Franklin: Give Up Your Furs And We'll Pay Your Tax Bill!

Shannon Moore of Celebrity News Service tells me that the animal rights activists group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) have offered to pay the queen of soul's $19,000 tax bill if she agrees to stop wearing fur.Ingrid Newkirk, the president of the group, has written to Franklin and offered to help the soul legend avoid foreclosure on her Detroit mansion if Franklin hands over her collection of fur coats.

In the letter from to Franklin, Newkirk writes, "We would like to help you out by paying the approximate $19,000 in back taxes that you owe- if you'll agree to save animals from hideous suffering and death by promising never to wear fur again and donating your old furs to PETA."She concludes the letter by writing, "Our offer is a win-win situation: You get to keep your home, and animals get to keep their lives. We are rooting for you to please give animals the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that they deserve by giving up fur."PETA has reportedly been trying for months to get Franklin to give up her extensive collection of famous fur coats. Franklin has until March 31 to pay her debt and save her home.

50 Cent Previews G-Unit Album For MTV News At His Connecticut Mansion

Afeni Shakur responds to the L.A Times Diddy ambush story!

Diddy and Henchmen may be hitting the Times with some libel suits as they claim their family was put in danger and slandered! Ms Afeni Shakur released this statement to the media

"We will continue to work to save the lives of our young people and to offer peaceful alternatives to violence and conflict resolution," Afeni Shakur said in a statement Friday. "That is what we have done since the murder of my son, and that is exactly what we will consciously continue to do."

Beanie Siegel back in Jail again!

Rap star Beanie Siegel has returned to prison. A federal judge in Philadelphia sentenced Sigel to three months in prison Friday after authorities say he gave a false urine sample to probation officials. That's violating probation!

Toronto Slammed! Soulja Boy CANCELLED and Postponed entire Tour to September 2008!

I first got the shocker from Canada's only hip-hop station's boss, Wayne Williams at Flow 93.5FM. I believe Flow was a sponsor and Wayne told me that they had postponed his upcoming 23-city 21 & Under Tour with Lil Mama, V.I.C. and Tiffany Evans. A spokesman for the rapper said the tour is expected to be rescheduled for the fall with a kick-off sometime in September. Fans should check at point of purchase to determine what to do with tickets already purchased for the tour. Soulja Boy's 2007 debut album, souljaboytellem.com, spawned the hit song "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," which earned a Grammy nomination for best rap song. I told a neighbor's teen who bought a ticket last week. She didn't say "Crank that." She said "fu*k that!" Whoa!

Akon secretly records a COUNTRY ALBUM?

Whoa Nelly! as they say in the country world! I hear R&B star Akon has recorded a “secret” country and western record and released it under an alias in a bid to be the first successful black artist in the genre. The ‘Lonely’ singer is a big fan of country music and is determined to conquer the genre but is convinced that fans of the music would not buy the records if they were released under his real name.

And the 34-year-old insists he is already on his way to making it big as a country star as he has already released his first single - and it has been a major success. He says, ‘No black artist has ever broken into the genre. I’m going in under a secret alias and I’ve already got my first hit record.’”

He recorded the album under a secret alias.

This past Monday 24th March, I received an award from the students of C.W Jeffrey's Collegiate Institute, a career focusing high school in Toronto. It is located in one of the toughest neighborhoods in T-Dot. Jane and Finch area. I used to speak in high schools all over the USA and I was nominated for several, in fact too many awards. Baltimore County Volunteer of the Year, Maryland Volunteer of the Year, one from President Clinton, General Colin Powell etc. There are so many damn plaques that I left them all in Nigeria. See, it's not about the awards. It's about helping our youth. Just yesterday two black 20 yr olds have been added to the jail roll. This needs to stop after they bound and duct taped employees of a pawn shop and robbed it at the mall downstairs by my house. That was the assignment that kept me busy yesterday!

Normally, I speak about the dangers of drugs from a Pharmacist standpoint as I am also a Pharmacist. This time I spoke about the myths of hip-hop where we talked about the criminal records of every hip-hop star who had one and how they turned their lives around plus the ones who are still not getting it! Our kids are in gangs here!



Remember this video above in Toronto 2 weeks ago? 6 kids got shot, one died! Now we are hearing whispers out of my newsroom that it was a gang initiation where a potential gang member is told to go out there and kill a bunch of people and they will get in. These were a bunch of Somalian kids who were straight "A" students not in any criminal activity! Kids, I wanna thank you for the glass trophy and the huge gift card in the envelope. Mr. David Reid, Principal Spyropoulous and all of the staff and students. Call me anytime and I will be there. Finally, let's not forget Jordan Manners, the first kid to die in a school shooting in Toronto in May 2007, a week before I arrived in Toronto. This is what lead me to your school because things like this does not happen here and it must NEVER AGAIN!.

Rapper T.I has plead GUILTY to 3 counts of weapons violation!

You are looking at Atlanta's beautiful skyline. The Olympic bombing happened at the park right behind the CNN building.

Thanks to Bill Rankin and Frank Neimeir of the AJC at the press conference and court hearing aftermath! Atlanta rapper T.I. used the fame he gained glorifying violence in his music to cut a deal Thursday that keeps him out of federal prison in the coming year and on the road preaching nonviolence to kids. T.I., whose real name in Clifford Harris Jr., faced a minimum of 4 years 9 months behind bars after he was caught last fall buying machine guns and silencers in an undercover sting.

But if Harris abides by his extraordinary plea agreement, he will spend less than a year in prison. Before he surrenders to begin serving time, he must perform at least 1,000 hours of community service telling kids about the pitfalls of crime, drugs and gangs and encouraging them to respect the law. The details of Harris' plea deal were outlined Thursday during an hour long hearing in which he pleaded guilty to two charges of illegally possessing firearms and another for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

One of the world's best-known rap artists, Harris was arrested Oct. 13, just hours before he was to receive two awards at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. Harris, 27, wearing a gray sharkskin suit, was smiling as he walked up to a bank of microphones outside the federal courthouse after his plea. He vowed to dedicate himself to changing the lives of young people.

"I'm not looking forward to being incarcerated," Harris said. "I have a long road of redemption to travel. ... I realize completely I violated the law, and I take it very seriously." U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell Jr. scheduled Harris' sentencing for March 27, 2009. If the musician abides by the conditions of his plea agreement, Pannell is bound to impose a prison sentence of one year plus one day.

He is expected to serve less than a year, however. Because of a quirk in Bureau of Prisons rules, inmates get credit for good behavior — and can carve off 15 percent of their incarcerations — only if they are sentenced to more than a year. The agreement also says that if Harris does not abide by the conditions in his plea and no longer accepts responsibility for his actions, Pannell can slam him with a sentence of more than 8 years in prison. Harris also was fined $100,000 and sentenced to a year's home confinement. He has been out on $3 million bond, and he will get credit for time spent in home confinement since late October and any time he spends at home in the coming year.

BTW, that's Rashan Ali of Hot 107.9FM T.I is hugging. She's a morning show host, Hot is one of Atlanta's 3 hip-hop stations. "He can perform, act in movies [and] carry on with his business until the end of the 12-month period," said Ed Garland, one of Harris' six attorneys. FYI, Ed Garland is one powerful old white man Atlanta Attorney. God forbid if I need him I would have to take a million dollar bank loan! All the while, a private security officer will shadow Harris and report on him if he strays. Carl Lietz, an Atlanta lawyer and former federal defender, expressed astonishment at the agreement. "That is an outstanding deal, given what he was facing," Lietz said. "This is a very unusual, and in my experience, unprecedented way to resolve a case involving these allegations." Sandra has how the whole Grand Hustle family was so thrilled here.

U.S. Attorney David Nahmias defended the deal, saying preventing crime is a paramount objective. "If Mr. Harris performs as expected, his efforts and ability to reach and influence a large number of young people should prevent and deter at least some of them from committing crimes that endanger their communities and ruin their lives," Nahmias said. Steve Sadow, another one of Harris' attorneys, called the agreement "fair and reasonable. ... T.I. knows he's getting a second chance here, and he's going to make the most of it."

Since 1997, Harris has had a string of run-ins with the law that placed him in jail or under arrest, including a 1998 crack cocaine distribution conviction in Cobb County.
His career took off after he devoted himself to rap music. His 2003 CD, "Trap Muzik," was well received and "T.I. vs. T.I.P." topped the charts last summer. In May 2006, tragedy struck Harris after his show before an raucous crowd in Cincinnati. As his entourage drove away, one van was hit by gunfire. One of Harris' friends and assistants was shot and killed, and his head of security was wounded. The shooters have not been identified.

Over the next year and a half, Harris appeared to be assembling enough weaponry to start a war or end one according to the Feds. T.I's personal assistant Philant Johnson who was killed in that shooting was a good friend of mine. I heard while I was in Nigeria and was extremely devastated. Was someone trying to kill T.I? Maybe he was trying to protect himself but as a convicted felon, you can't own a gun!

"Terror" Squad chic REMY MA found GUILTY of shooting assault!

A Manhattan jury has convicted Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma of assault. She faces up to 25 years in prison. The rapper was convicted Thursday in state Supreme Court. The defense had conceded that Remy Ma fired a shot at a friend she suspected of stealing $3,000, but said it was an accident. The incident occurred outside a nightclub on July 14, 2007.

Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, was nominated for a Grammy as part of the Terror Squad for the 2004 hit "Lean Back." She also has appeared on recordings with Busta Rhymes and Eminem. Remy left the courthouse in tears and was immediately LOCKED UP without bail! Her sentencing is on April 23rd. This is the message these young female rappers need to send to our daughters that shooting and all kinds of violence doesn't pay. First we had L'il Kim who lied about a shooting and did time, then we had Foxy Brown who couldn't help hitting everyone and now Remy Ma!

It was so funny, it's something you have to see and in the end, the Pips took off their wigs and threw them in the audience singing the "Grapevine" song. Kanye West Sued Over "Good Life!"

OMG. What's this? I just interviewed the highly talented DJ Toomp who produced the song, now comes word that this man claims it's his song! Kanye West is being sued by an unknown songwriter/producer who claims he stole his tune for hit Good Life. Dayna Staggs has filed a lawsuit alleging West ripped off his track Volume Of Good Life and infringed copyright.

Sources claim he wants 85% of the cash made from the track which got to number 1 around the world. The producer- who works under the name D’Mystro- claims Kanye has harmed his reputation by using “vulgar and offensive" lyrics in Good Life. If it was so offensive, why does he want 85% of something vulgar? Meanwhile Roc-A Fella has no comments as of yet! More to come......

MTV will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the influential Yo! MTV Raps!

Ace Cannon of Allhiphop reports that MTV will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the influential Hip-Hop video show Yo! MTV Raps starting on April 1. The network’s MTV, MTV2, MTV Tr3s, MTV Jams, MTV Hits, MTV Mobile, MTV Radio and MTV On Demand will feature old and new Yo! MTV Raps programming. Yo! MTV Raps ran from August 1988 to August 1995. The show was hosted by Doctor Dre & Ed Lover and Fab 5 Freddy. During April, MTV's "Sucker Free" officially becomes "Yo! MTV Raps", while MTV Jams becomes "Yo! MTV Jams" for the month. The show will feature the current Hip-Hop video countdown hosted by DJ Cipha Sounds, as well as memorable moments from the original show, including classic videos and old clips from MTV News.

Sean Levert Jailed for 22 months for being a deadbeat dad!

The brother of late crooner Gerald Levert sentenced to prison for not paying child support. Sean Levert from the group "Levert" will spend the next 22-months behind bars. Levert owes $85,427.68 in back child support for his three children - ages 11, 15 and 17. Levert was sentenced Monday by Judge Nancy Margaret Russo. He did not speak at his sentencing.

BREAKING NEWS: Los Angeles Times apologizes to Diddy on FALSE Tupac ambush article!

Thanks to Mediaoutrage: After The Smoking Gun put James Sabatino on blast for being a con man and pathological liar, who probably forged the documents that were submitted to LA Times writer Chuck Phillips, as evidence for his conspiracy theory article, in which he accused Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Jimmy ‘Henchman’ Rosemond and the late Notorious B.I.G. of having pre knowledge of the Tupac ambush, the La Times has issued a formal apology to them for not doing a thorough investigation of the forged documents and basically for slandering the hell out of their names. Here’s what writer Chuck Phillips and his supervisor, Deputy Managing Editor Marc Duvoism had to say in apologies issued on Wednesday afternoon about the debacle….

“In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job,” Philips said in a statement Wednesday. “I’m sorry.”

In his statement, Duvoisin added: “We should not have let ourselves be fooled. That we were is as much my fault as Chuck’s. I deeply regret that we let our readers down.”

Times Editor Russ Stanton:

Times Editor Russ Stanton announced that the newspaper would launch an internal review of the documents and the reporting surrounding the story. Stanton said he took the criticisms of the March 17 report “very seriously.”

“We published this story with the sincere belief that the documents were genuine, but our good intentions are beside the point,” Stanton said in a statement.

“The bottom line is that the documents we relied on should not have been used. We apologize both to our readers and to those referenced in the documents and, as a result, in the story. We are continuing to investigate this matter and will fulfill our journalistic responsibility for critical self-examination.”

When MTV News first caught up with Lil Wayne he said: “Right now we’re in Wat… How do you say it? Watford?” He may not have known exactly where in Europe he was, but the fact was that the ‘hottest rapper in the game’ -as crowned by MTV US- was sat talking to us backstage at Area nightclub, Watford. Watford is a very black area that has clubs that caters to mostly hip-hop crowds and it's been in the scene for quite a while. I finished my high school in England and we were 18 yr old teenagers and all used to hang there on weekends. In those days, though it was Shalamar, Dynasty, Diana Ross and more. Outkast's Road Manager dies of accidental drug overdose!

"Accidental?" Is that the kind that killed Gerald Levert? NOT AGAIN! A former wrestler battling an addiction to painkillers was found dead in his home after suffering an apparent accidental drug overdose. Chase Tatum, 34, was found dead Sunday in his home in Atlanta, his father, Roy, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Chase Tatum used to wrestle for the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling organization. More recently, he appeared in the comedy "Who's Your Caddy?" alongside rapper Big Boi of Outkast. Chase Tatum had been recovering from back surgery to repair a degenerative disc. His father said the former wrestler had been fighting a dependence to painkillers for years but had been planning to enter a rehabilitation centre. He was also OUTKAST'S road Manager. Controversies of the Day to address!

• "I've lost my sweet helping hand, I've got myself to blame." Did she know her husband was abusing drugs? This was the song playing at Corinne Bailey Rae's website when you enter it and click news! Many of you e-mailed me yesterday on Corinne Bailey Rae's husband's death from a drug overdose. You complained that EVERY blog reported it and I didn't and some of you even questioned my Journalism experience. Well, I attended the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and I was a NEWS major and I have been in broadcasting for 12 years (1996). I consider myself a "professional" blogger and not just a "blogger." I don't write excessive gossip, curse, use ghetto slangs or have a comment field which has been abused three times in the past as a competitive arena. People writing 1st! 2nd! and all that mess. This is a news site!

• I don't report what everyone reports. Some bloggers simply go to every blogroll and see what others have. I gather news. A process called "news gathering" in the newsroom which is extremely time consuming and filled with research. I have been a TV, Radio, Entertainment, Traffic, Internet Reporter in the Atlanta market. Pls visit my media website and look on the right column for those credits. I determine what is RELEVANT as you see up here on my header.

• Was Corinne Bailey Rae's husband's death relevant to this site? NO! Her music is not hip-hop nor R&B and is more like folk-pop music. Secondly As a reporter writing for myself, I am exhausted with stories of excessive drug use. There is a post in this blog somewhere where I criticized Rapper L'il Wayne for drinking Phenergan cough syrup like Kool Aid and also the late Rapper Pimp C for rapping about Tussi-Ornex a super strong narcotic cough syrup he drank like liquor which eventually killed him causing hypoxia in his brain (sucking oxygen out!) Some of you know I started my career in 1988 as a Registered Pharmacist in the USA. This May 4th 2008 after 20 years, I will be retiring as a part-time Pharmacist, I stopped full time prescription filling 5 years ago. I intend to only work as a fill in Pharmacist 1-3 times a month. The Kanye Dilema according to Canada's National Post newspaper!

Our Canadian newspaper NATIONAL POST talks about the "Kanye Dilema" in this week's deadly sin "puffed up with pride." They are talking about Canadian Rapper Belly who says "There's no room to be vulnerable in hip hop," he says over the phone from Vancouver. "As a rapper, you gotta believe you're the best!"

The Post writes.....Call it the Kanye Dilemma: how does one play the game and yet contain the ego? It's a fine balance for those who seek to survive in a genre where swagger is part of the art. Want to be the best? You first have to believe you're the best.

I e-mailed Kanye last night to read this as many think he has some kind of ego problem but alas, the Post thinks he contains it well. West is not that arrogant type you hear about. You have to meet him first. I met him for the first time to interview him at the album release party of his first album "College Dropout" in 2004. Most of you that know me know I am 6ft 1 and when I opted to bend down to take this photo, he insisted we should sit and not strain myself. I wanted to stand beside him. A very humble funny guy. Ironically his mother took this picture. The late Donda West. That death devastated me! Even if he sings it in his songs that people portray him as arrogant, didn't he work hard enough? Look at Blueprint 1 and 2 by Jay-Z. I have nothing else to say.

Diddy settles punching lawsuit!

In the lawsuit filed last year, Gerard Rechnitzer says he and his girlfriend were leaving an event at Teddy's at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel around 2:00 AM when Combs punched him without warning while the rapper was talking to his girlfriend.

The suit also alleged that Combs pushed Rechnitzer's girlfriend and tried to spit on another woman in the parking lot. As he left, Rechnitzer says Combs climbed halfway out of a car window and stared him down.

Combs' lawyers filed a document in Los Angeles on Friday indicating the case had settled, but the terms were not disclosed.

He said she was scared of coming to Africa! Something I wanna ask her when she comes here to Toronto on the Heart of the City tour with Jay. That was the Independence Day music festival in 2006 back home with Ciara, Busta, En Vogue, Snoop, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Missy Elliott and a ton on Nigerian hip-hop acts. 2007 had Diddy, John Legend, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland and more.

Big Boi bashes PRESIDENT BUSH in a stupid song!

This ridiculous song is by BigBoi the black sheep half of OUTKAST who I will never LIKE for what he did to me on July 16th 2004 at Visions Night Club in Atlanta. I believe in free speech but not his! As an Entertainment reporter, your kids show off in school everyday and one of my 3 sons actually carries wallet pictures of me and hip-hop stars around in his school bag like baseball cards. "My mom knows Kanye West, my mom knows this rapper and that......" Kids will be kids! So he was 12 then and when I go to the clubs to start my work, in this case I was covering the album release of Outkast's new album then called Speaker boxx-The love below, I normally have the kids in the car and when the artist arrives on the red carpet, I bring them down to take their photos and it's right back in the car with their dad and home to bed while I stay at the club covering the album release party. As I bought my older two sons out then 12 and 17, Big Boi said to me "Don't have time for no kiddie picture" and he shoved thru them and went inside! Huh!

Andre then walked back to where we the press were stationed, CARRIED MY SONS ACROSS THE BARS THAT SEPARATES THE PUBLIC FROM THEM and took that picture with the boys. I will never forget that! I will show you that picture one day as it is in the Nigerian computer coming soon. Now at 16, my one son Big Boi shoved doesn't buy Outkast albums as you know they mostly now have two CD albums. He just gets the Andre 3000 part from pals and burns it. Kids don't forget things like that. Maybe one day Big Boi will apologize if he even remembers! REMEMBER WHEN YOU BECOME FAMOUS, YOUR FANS PUT YOU THERE!

The service at the Georgia Dome is hailed as America's largest Easter service. Nearly 40,000 New Birth Missionary Baptist Church members were joined by local, state and national politicians to worship inside Atlanta’s Georgia Dome. Sunday’s service was the first event held at the facility since the tornado. The True Meaning of Easter!

Like how I decorated the cross in front of our church? Last night during my church's Easter vigil, my son KJ got baptized in a very HOLY ceremony. We catholics are very strict about how things are done in our church. KJ became a full baptized child of GOD. What is the true meaning of Easter? Before my son was baptized, I made him watch a movie he actually wanted to. There are many versions of this movie but I chose the Mel Gibson version. This was "The Passion of the Christ." My 7 year old son cried his eyes out to see how they suffered Jesus and why he died for us. He truly understood. Easter is not about egg hunts, bunnies and colored eggs? BEST NEWS OF DA WEEK: OMG! Rapper T.I can attend Easter services at New Birth!

Rapper T.I. didn't get to host a Thanksgiving gathering at the suburban home where is under house arrest while awaiting trial on weapons charges, but he is being allowed to attend an Easter service. A federal magistrate judge ruled Thursday that T.I., whose given name is Clifford Harris, can be away from home from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday so he can attend a service sponsored by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

Court documents say the service had been planned to be held at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta, but because of tornado damage at the dome it may have to be held at the church's Lithonia location. The judge says T.I. must be accompanied during the excursion by a court-approved monitor and one of his attorneys. New Birth is the mega celebrity church I visited now and then in ATL. It was near my home but I'm catholic though. When you go there, take your camera with you. Take pictures with all the celebs AFTER SERVICES ONLY PLS! Politicians, Rappers, Actors, Ballers and even past famous criminals.

Ma gurl Tiny must be thrilled. The first person to wish me Happy birthday on MySpace website last summer when I moved to Canada. Boy, she remembered and I was surprised! Tiny is just like that. Very humble and cool! Happy Easter T.I, Tiny and all the kids. The kids that I marked with the white squares are his own. Others are nieces. These 4 are from different baby mamas and the one on his lap is Tiny's and you all know she's expecting a second one for him too. Sweet family! Don't judge people. The T.I and Tiny I knew as an entertainment reporter were and are still wonderful people. He will win that case and is in our prayers. The feds always have a way of setting things up! Everyone has their own opinion!

HIP-HOP HISTORY: My baby boy mixes his first song!

My youngest son is KJ and now seven years old. He's an Akon lookalike and has been obsessed with hip-hop since 3-years-old! I have proof! Now, I taught him yesterday how to mix songs on Adobe Audition software. KJ and I agreed on Governor Eliot Spitzer's resignation speech. Oh, my son is not too young to know his current affairs. After all he was born in the USA and knows all governor's names in the 50 States.

We chose Beyonce's "irreplacable" because there is no such thing! Anyone can be replaced anytime! At the end, KJ adds Larry King and New York's WABC-TV's Diana Williams' voice. I taught him how to adjust sound levels etc. We didn't like the instrumental because we wanted to hear that "you must not know bout me" part. Who knew Mr. Governator was spending $5k on hookers per hour! Also "to the left"=Democrat. J.D watch out! Start teaching your kids computers now. He has his own computer. Every child 7 and above gets a new desktop in Toronto Public schools. I love this Canadian system. Free health care, free computers for school kids etc. You fill the form, the teacher fills her part and they deliver it to your house!

Quincy Jones to speak at University of Washington graduation, get honorary doctorate.

Mmmm.....Dr Jones? The AP reports that Quincy Jones will receive an honorary doctorate at the University of Washington commencement, where the musician-composer-producer-arranger will speak on June 14. The university's regents voted to award the degree at their meeting Thursday. The 75-year-old Jones moved to Bremerton, Wash., with his family at age 10 and began playing the trumpet in junior high school. He also sang in a gospel quartet before moving to Seattle.

He has toured with Lionel Hampton's band, and has arranged for other musicians including Duke Ellington, Ray Charles and County Basie. He's best known, though, as the producer of two of the biggest selling records of all time: Michael Jackson's 1982 album "Thriller" and the single "We Are the World."

UPDATE: A fatal execution style shooting shocks TORONTO! This does NOT happen here!

I don't even post non-hip-hop stories here but Toronto Police asked me if I could help them catch a killer. You know we urban folks love the hip-hop culture and the audience that may visit here may have a clue to who did this. Am I stereotyping you? If it means catching a killer walking the streets, I'll post it! Wish they could get those zoom in equipment in from the States so that they can know this person's identity. Friends and family packed the Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque in Etobicoke for the funeral of 18-year-old Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim 3 hours ago, Toronto's 11th homicide victim of the year.

"He was a good kid," said friend Abdul Addo. "Everybody loved him. Everybody loved him." Like most of those present at the sombre service, Addo has seen the video of the shooting and was stunned by the callous nature with which the gunman fired on the group. "He didn't care. He just kept shooting. 'Till the last click. He clicked it and then he ran away." The Mosque holds approximately 1,500 people, but so many arrived to mourn the loss of the promising teen that they actually had to close the doors. This was the Somalian community. 6 kids just socializing in front of a locked door with no where to run. This guy wanted 6 dead bodies!

The slain teen's former teacher was in attendance after spending a harrowing night at the hospital with him and other shooting victims. Abdikarim was one of six men targeted by a gunman on Amaranth Court in the Dufferin and Allen area on Friday night. They call this court "The Jungle." It's had it's fair share of crime. The police video shows two men walking towards the area where Abdikarim and his friends were hanging out. The man in front pulls out a gun and begins firing at the group, hitting Abdikarim with a fatal shot to the head. Five others were wounded.

The other man, who was trailing behind the gunman, immediately begins to run away from the scene. Police are currently searching for him, and are trying to figure out if he was with the shooter, or just in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is also another figure well far away from the two men and that figure ran back to his car or somewhere too. I think this gunman was alone. Police say the victims weren't involved in any criminal activity. It's starting to look like the U.S as Toronto's homicides are about 82 per year as compared to 1900 in Baltimore, New York or Philly. Just 2 days ago Toronto THE LARGEST CITY IN CANADA was in the list of Canada's most dangerous cities as #26. Not bad but we may be gunning for the #1 spot soon with brazen shootings like this. A family member counted 17 bullets on the tape to the last clip. R.I.P. Abdikarim!

Teletoon releases statement to Keminications Media on controversial BOONDOCKS cartoon.

Here is a corporate statement from Teletoon on why they chose to air the controversial "Boondocks" episode on Sunday night. Boondocks is already on the regular Teletoon adult line up "DETOUR" but I personally enjoyed this episode which I felt should have expressed free speech in North America. This is my personal assessment of last night's show and does not reflect the opinion of Teletoon. Teletoon had the disclaimer above aired ever 10 minutes during the show. Good move!

First of all, I had to chase my 7yr old son KJ to bed but he ended up watching it anyway since I had parental guidance. This episode raised my eyebrows but at the end of the day, it is all about free speech. The Americans scream that daily but never adhere to it. When Aaron McGruder did this episode, his regular network Cartoon Network of Time Warner rejected this one due to lawsuit pressure from BET, but Cartoon Network has always denied that. Teletoon Canada is our cartoon channel and just like CN has Adult Swim, we have this adult portion too. The episode puts BET and its executives CEO Debra Lee and President Reginald Hudlin on full blast.

In the episode, Huey's hunger strike against BET is supported by Reverend Rollo Goodlove, voiced by guest star Cee-Lo. The Gnarls Barkley crooner also narrates the episode, in which BET head Deborah Leevil, a Dr. Evil type ruler, runs the network with nothing but ill will in mind. She kills an employee at the board table for a bad opinion. She even bows and kneels to a Viacom-like character like Sumner Redstone, Viacom's big boss. Viacom owns BET.

"Weggie Rudlin, my Harvard-educated President of Entertainment, tell me about the eeevil shows you have in development," the woman barks to her executive as she pets a hairless animal and places her pinky finger at the corner of her mouth.

Weggie Rudlin, a man who strongly resembles BET's President of Entertainment, Reginald Hudlin, stands before her meekly and says: "My Harvard education tells us that our goal is to take all the s***ty reality shows that MTV did five years ago and make them black… Next month we're going to have our first award show honoring video hoes, or as I like to call it, a hoe-wards show."

Boondocks is a cartoon about an angry point of view of two black kid brothers on everything. They live with their grandpa who they constantly argue with. Above are relevant screenshots of the controversial episode which has CNN, the Drudge Report, with BET and even MTV on blast. It was real fun and I was ashamed that CN banned it. The only thing I could see about the ban was when Huey, one of the kids went on CNN to protest BET. CN and CNN are both owned by Time Warner. That may pose a conflict of interest. There was even a Walmart employee, homeless people and illegal immigrants who said they were supporting BET employees treated like crap with no money by giving them the little they earn. Some BET employees were shown as homeless people living under bridges!

Huey's demand was that BET stop demeaning women on their music videos and pay their employees well, so the kid went on a hunger strike. Since some employees were portrayed as homeless, Walmart may not like their involvement in that either! That cartoon was perfectly safe in Canada! In the end, they all become friends and their pictures were all featured on Matt Drudge's "Drudge Report." It is too early to tell if BET will try to kill free speech by attempting any legal action on Teletoon. LET'S HOPE NOT!

It is 19 minutes and 20 seconds of course minus the commercials and Teletoons' discretionary announcement every 10 minutes plus you get to see the credits at the end. Tavis Smiley played himself and dissed BET! Caution: Discretion is advised. Coarse language! Wear headphones at work! It's ready Scott! You-yes you Scott are going to need TWO headphones! LOL! You know what I mean!

Ma boy Busta SENTENCED to 3 years probation!

When I finished this interview with Busta in my country Nigeria back in October 2006, I clearly told Busta not to do anything that will get him BUSTED! Well, he did! A judge in NYC has just sentenced Busta Rhymes to three years' probation for assaulting his former driver and a fan last year. The judge also warned the rapper to stay out of trouble or else, saying "If you mess up, you're going to jail."

The 35-year-old Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was also ordered to perform 10 days of community service; pay a $1,250 fine, plus court costs; and enroll in a drunken driving program. According to Busta's lawyer, Scott Leemon, "He's done" with all legal action stemming from the last couple years in NYC.

After the sentencing, Rhymes said the terms of the plea deal won't be a problem. "I have no trouble being a good dude because that's what I am," he said, adding he wanted to get back to "having fun, making music, running around and showing love."

Ice T came on Conan last night and spoke about his new CD "Gangsta Rap" as well as his Law and Order SVU gig. He actually told us about that nude shoot his wife Coco did for Playboy! They were taking nude shots all over the subway in New York without permission from transit authorities and he said they almost got caught and Coco had to flash the driver as she was totally nude in a trench coat. What a PIMP! Pimping his wife on the subway. LOL!

I think it's got to be good advertising for YouTube--you can check out the full lyrics--but Ms. Carey seems to be talking about how she doesn't want to find an illicit video of her on YouTube--which is enough to make an adolescent boy look for said video on there. And more eyeballs mean more potential ad dollars for the site. Gurlfiend, someone put you down there on where else? YouTube!

Weezy's London show last night cut short by violence!

According to witnesses who attended the show at the Stratford Rex, Lil Wayne performed a shorter set than expected, after at least six fights erupted near the stage. Despite the efforts of event security and Lil Wayne's own bodyguards, the side stage area originally reserved for VIPs became overcrowded, witnesses say. The witness at the event was impressed by the crowd’s enthusiastic reply to Lil Wayne, noting that most patrons knew the rapper’s lyrics word for word. Minutes later, an audience member launched a bottle onto the stage and was escorted out of the venue, as Lil Wayne stopped the performance.

“As he was walking off someone threw a glass at him from the balcony. Then he turned as if to address the crowd, and then about five or six other objects and glasses rained down on the stage…it was a mess!” No word as to whether the violence resulted in any arrests or injuries.

Los Angeles Times journalist Chuck Philips has more surprising allegations concerning musical icons Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace) and Sean "Diddy" Combs. In 1994, Tupac Shakur was ambushed, beaten and shot at the Quad Recording Studios in New York. He insisted that friends of Sean 'Diddy' Combs were behind it. New information supports him.

Mo 'Money: Snoop getting his own cartoon on Comedy Central!

It's not Snooperman, but Snoop Dogg has landed his own cartoon that is slated to debut as part of Comedy Central’s new block of programming the network has announced. Just when you thought you had learned about his fatherhood, now you get to learn about his childhood. Snoop Dogg’s untitled cartoon is among a group of new shows being produced by actors like David Alan Grier, Andy Richter and Adam Sandler.

According to Variety, Snoop Dogg’s cartoon recreates the rapper’s life as a teen growing up in Long Beach, California in 1980’s. Snoop Dogg will also serve as executive producer of the cartoon, along with Tom Lynch. "We've been looking to get into business with Snoop, who's always fantastic on our roasts," Comedy Central original programming development President Lauren Corrao said. "He's one of those people who truly crosses over between music and comedy." Now he's on E!, Comedy Central and hitting ABC's "One life to Live" in May. You go boy!

Remy Ma's shooting trial: Does this look like a serious defendant?

Blue contacts, polka dot colors, Adams family weave and tons of loud jewelry. Thank God that's only a radio station appearance! The assault trial of rapper Remy Ma continued yesterday in Manhattan Criminal Court. Prosecutors accuse Remy Ma, 26, of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen in July 2007, after a night of partying at a club in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan.

The shooting happened shortly after the pair argued over $3,000 dollars that was missing from Remy Ma’s purse. Krystal Bolton, an aspiring rapper, testified yesterday (March 13) that she was sitting in a parked car, when she heard gunshots. Although Bolton did not witness the actual shooting, she claimed Makeda Barnes-Joseph cried out "don't let me die," as Remy Ma fled the scene of the crime. Bolton, a 25-year-old teacher’s assistant, is the third witness to testify against Remy Ma.

The New York Post reports that Bolton admitted that she was too drunk the night of the shooting to accurately recollect the events. "I just remember a light flashing and me running to [Barnes-Joseph] on the ground," Bolton testified. Only one of the four people present claim to have witnessed Remy Ma with a gun, as she approached Barnes-Joseph’s car.

Prosecutors also accuse Remy Ma of witness tampering, after the boyfriend of one the witnesses was assaulted in Bronx night club. Barnes-Joseph may have testified yesterday (March 14) or possibly Monday the 17th. Remy Ma, born Remy Smith, is facing up to 25 years in prison. Lock the door and throw away the key. No! Rihanna’s New Single “Take A Bow” debuts on Ryan Seacrest Show.

Ryan played the song Friday on Kiss-FM in Los Angeles and we hear that "Take A Bow", is said to be from the re-release of Good Girl Gone bad- which only just recently went platinum after nine months on the charts. The re-release is scheduled to hit record store shelves a May 27th. Listen here.

I seen that sh*t! Bullsh*t! The woman is perceived the way…she is perceived. It is what it is, man. You gotta look at what hip-hop is. Hip-hop is not the stories. It’s not a soap opera. Hip-hop is not ‘The View.’ It’s not…’The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ Hip-hop is what it is. We have our certain views on women the way we do. It’s like Playboy. Do anybody got something to say about the way Playboy view women? They take their shirt off and show their t**ties. That’s the first way to get into Playboy. You gotta show Hugh Heffner your t**ties if you wanna get in Playboy. There’s nothing degrading about that, but at the same time, when we show women in videos, they have their clothes on. We don’t play videos on BET with women naked; we can’t get away with that. But it’s degrading what we’re doing, when in actuality, we’re giving these women a chance to shine. Now, if these women would become directors and depict women in a different light, then that would give them a different light as far as the way people view them. A male director is gonna direct it the way he feels. He’s gonna make it the way a woman looks sexy.
